Google has built an new technology to make cars drive themselves, an exercise to help reduce traffic accidents, free up motorists time and ultimately curb carbon emissions. Google says this is a first Robotic Research.Google tested the self driving Toyota Prius cars driving themselves around the San Francisco area, clocking up over 140,000 miles on public roads.
Before an automated car takes the road, Google sends out a driver to map the route and road conditions, logging lane markers and traffic signs to become familiar with terrain. These road information is relayed to software in Google’s data centers.
Self Driving Cars uses video cameras, radar sensors and a laser range finder to see traffic and to navigate with the helo of data collected using manually driven vehicles For safety there’s always a trained human in the driving seat waiting to step in if things go away.
