Few steps you must do after migration then only you can utilize all advantages of wordpress.When I migrated my blog from blogger to wordpress I performed these steps.Hence I like to share the same for you.
Create Robots.txt
Create robots.txt file for your blog and put it in self hosted wordpress blog root directory.In blogger we won’t create robots.txt because it is not possible it will take care by google blogger platform but we need to create robot.txt file for wordpress blog.
Create Sitemap
Create new sitemap for your wordpress blog.I would to like recommend most popular Google sitemap Generator plugin for this.You can create sitemap using this plugin.And put the sitemap file in root directory (location where you put robots.txt).Change the sitemap file in google webmaster tool also.
Change Feedburner Original Feed
You must change feedburner original feed because blogger and wordpress feeds are different.In bloggers you feed will be something like below
http://www.yourblogname.org/feeds/posts/default
but for wordpress blog
http://www.yourblogname.org/feed
So change your feedburner original feed like above.And you can also use Feedburner plugin.You should add your feedburner address in that plugin it will be something like this http://feeds.feedburner.com/techpages/bJIM
That’s all hereafter you won’t lose your readers.
Change Permalinks Structure
Main problem in blogger is permalink structure.After blogger to wordpress migration I hope you still have old blogger Date with postname permalink structure because then only you will traffic from search engine but Date with postname permalink structure is not seo friendly so can you change your wordpress blog permalink structure using Permalinks Migration plugin.
How to change permalinks?
1.Install Permalinks Migration plugin and activate.
2.Go to plugin and Keep old permalink structure like below
/%year%/%monthnum%/%postname%.html
3.Now to Dashboard ——> Setting —–> Permalinks —> Change custom structure
I would to suggest three best SEO friendly permalink structure.You can use one of the below
/%category%/%postname%/
or
/%postname%/
or
/%postname%/%post_id%/
I tried this technique I didn’t face any problem.
